Team Involved in the Operation:

The great team of doctors successfully created the world’s first voice Box reconstruction, changing a little boy’s life. He was just two years old. He was operated at the Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis. They have made history by doing this act of helping a two-year-old child.

About The Child:

The name of the boy is Cooper Kilburn, a two-year-old boy from Adamsville, Tennessee, was born with Congenital High Airway Obstruction Syndrome. By this Syndrome it means his Larynx and trachea were wholly blocked, giving him Zero voice or way to breathe.

What Doctor Said:

The mortality rate is easily high, ninety percent for this diagnosis, possibly even higher,” said Doctor Jerome Thompson, an otolaryngologist in the source 1011now.com.

When Cooper’s Mom- Brooke Kilburn was seventeen weeks pregnant, then the diagnosis was made. She was in a car wreck and an ultrasound immediately after the crash revealed that something was incredibly wrong. An accident brought all this about. It had not been re-confirmed by an ultrasound because of the crash. And otherwise, Cooper was born he was going to die-said by Thompson.

How the Journey Began?

Twenty-two weeks they just had fetal surgery so Cooper would have just had his first ultra a week or two prior. The operation wasn’t successful, so they went to Le Bonheur. Their Doctors Implanted a tracheostomy tube in Cooper’s throat and gave him a ventilator. But he was still at risk of not being able to talk. The Mortality rate of trach-dependent patients tends to high, so they tried again after two years using parts of Cooper’s ribs, doctors were able to create voice-box and airway for him to breathe.
